Does anyone happen to have any recommendations on a good birding spot for the Seattle area this time of year?

Re: Birding around Seattle
Sat, February 17, 2007 - 4:22 PMWhen I lived in Seattle I used to go to the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. It is really beautiful. Its where the Nisqually river meets the Puget sound. So you get a good mixture of birds. Lots of shore birds on the sound. Bring a spotting scope for them if you have one. Some of my highlights were three great horned owls less than 10 feet away from me! They were all puffed up and squashed close together. At first all I saw were yellow eyes staring at me. And the barn usually had barn owls to see. And lots of wood ducks in the trees around the lake/pond. I still find it odd to see ducks in trees. Its a bit far from Seattle, between Tacoma and Olympia, but worth it! Also, I used to take my car onto one of the ferries and go to any of the islands and find a place. Oh! Discovery Park! Always birds around. Infact I went out with a group once and saw a Parasitic Jagger! Hope that helps! Now I miss Seattle. Have fun. -
