Bird geek from Veracruz Mexico - Introduction

topic posted Thu, June 8, 2006 - 2:22 PM by  David
Hi All:
I am new to the group. I live in Mexico, Veracruz and my life is pretty much built around birds.
I am a birder/birding guide, nature photographer/digiscoper. I spend alot of time in the field photographing birds. I am presently involved in giving talks to high shool kids here in Mexico about the birds of Veracruz, bird conservation and migration. I look forward to participating in the group.

  • Hi David,

    Welcome!

Unfortunately, there's not much action in this tribe.

NIce photos on your profile! I've got a couple on mine as well. I'm more of a photographer than a birder, but I've at least been in the presence of some good birders :^) Most of my experience is in Central and South America. Well, and the US, of course...

I just got back from Mexico and saw some fantastic birds! I'm very fond of Central and South American species, and work closely with a scarlet macaw reintroduction project in Costa Rica.

      Welcome!
      • yay! thanks for helping the scarlet macaws. I went to Costa Rica a couple years ago and loved the birds, esp. the motmots, hummingbirds, honeycreepers and the quetzal. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see a scarlet macaw.

also, I like to keep my eyes out for the local birds. there is a red-tailed hawk I see regularly in Hunter's Point when I'm going to my art studio, and the poor guy is always getting harassed by other birds. maybe he's the instigator, but it really looks to me like the little birds gang up on him. they might just be defending their nests though. I've seen crows go after him, mockingbirds, and doves. every time I see him, he's getting chased. poor guy....

oh and welcome to the tribe! keep us up to date on what you're seeing in Veracruz. I love the birds down there.
